Why Upholstery Is Different

Your Sofa Absorbs More Than You Realize.

The average family sofa in Hopkinton takes the brunt of weeknight dinners, kid snack time, dog naps, marathon TV nights, and 1,200+ hours of body contact every year. All that oil, sweat, food, pet dander, and dust gets absorbed deep into the fabric and padding — and your weekly vacuum doesn't touch it.

Upholstery cleaning isn't just carpet cleaning with a smaller wand. Fabrics behave differently than carpet: some shrink, some bleed color, some have water-sensitive backings. Doing it wrong can permanently ruin a $4,000 sofa. Our team is IICRC certified specifically in upholstery and fine fabric care — that's the credential that matters.

  • Fiber analysis before any cleaning touches the fabric
  • Hot-water extraction with controlled moisture
  • Solvent-based cleaning for water-sensitive pieces
  • Dry in 2–6 hours, ready to use same day

What We Clean

If It Has Fabric, We Can Clean It.

From everyday family sectionals to Italian leather chairs and silk dining seats — we have a method for everything.

S

Sofas & Sectionals

The hardest-working piece in your house. Cushions, arms, backs, and crevices — every surface cleaned and deodorized.

C

Dining & Accent Chairs

From IKEA to Restoration Hardware — we treat every piece with appropriate care, including fixed and removable cushions.

R

Recliners & Loveseats

Body oil and headrest staining are nearly invisible — until they aren't. We address oxidation before it becomes permanent.

F

Fine Fabrics & Silk

Velvets, linens, silks, viscose — water-sensitive fabrics need solvent-based dry cleaning, not steam. We do both.

O

Outdoor & Patio Cushions

UV damage, pollen, mildew, sunscreen — we restore patio cushions and offer winter storage so they come back ready.

How We Clean Your Upholstery

The Lovejoy 5-Step Process

Every piece gets a careful, methodical approach — no spraying, scrubbing, and hoping.

1

Fiber ID & Inspection

We identify the fabric, check the manufacturer's care code, and test for colorfastness in a hidden area.

2

Pre-Vacuum

Specialized upholstery tool removes loose soil and dust mites without scratching delicate fibers.

3

Spot & Stain Treatment

Specific products for specific stains — coffee, wine, pet, food, oil — pre-treated by hand.

4

Deep Cleaning

Hot-water extraction or solvent dry cleaning, depending on the fabric. Controlled moisture, never over-wet.

5

Grooming & Drying

Fibers are groomed in their natural direction, airflow is set up, and most furniture is dry within 2–6 hours.

Built for Hopkinton Living Rooms

We Know What Hopkinton Sofas Are Up Against.

Marathon weekend hosting. Snowy boots that "just made it to the couch." Black Lab on a white linen sectional. The 5-year-old goldfish cracker investigation. Lake Maspenock pool parties that end on the patio furniture. We've seen it all in Hopkinton homes — and we've cleaned it all out.

In-home upholstery cleaning is one of our most-booked services for Hopkinton residents, especially in early spring (Marathon Monday prep) and late fall (before the holidays). Job length varies based on how much you're having cleaned — a single chair is fast, a full sectional with multiple rooms takes longer. We'll give you a clear estimate when we quote.

Common Questions From Hopkinton Customers

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does upholstery cleaning take?
It depends on what you're having cleaned — a single chair is very different from a full sectional plus dining room. We'll give you a clear time estimate during your free quote so you know exactly what to expect.
How long until I can use the furniture?
Drying time depends on the cleaning method and your specific fabric. Hot-water extraction typically takes 2–6 hours; low-moisture methods can dry significantly faster. We'll let you know what to expect before we leave.
Can you remove pet urine from a couch?
Surface contamination, yes — using enzyme treatments and UV inspection. If urine has soaked into the cushion foam or wood frame, we'll be honest: the cushion likely needs to be replaced. Cleaning alone can't decontaminate saturated foam.
How do I read the manufacturer's care code on my sofa?
Look for a tag under the cushion or on the back: W = water-based cleaning OK, S = solvent only, WS = either, X = vacuum only (rare). We handle all four — but the code tells us which method is safe. Don't worry if you can't find it; we'll identify the fabric on site.
Will you clean leather?
Yes — leather conditioning, deep cleaning, and oil/stain treatment. Different process than fabric, but we're trained on both.
How often should I have my upholstery professionally cleaned?
Every 12–24 months for a family sofa with regular use. Sooner if you have pets, kids, or someone who eats on the couch (so, everyone). Annual cleaning extends the life of the fabric significantly.
What's the MicroSeal protectant?
MicroSeal works differently from most fabric protectants. Where typical products (Scotchgard, etc.) coat the outside of each fiber, MicroSeal penetrates the fiber itself — which is why it lasts so much longer. Most pieces we treat hold up through 6–8 professional cleanings done by us before re-application is needed. It's also nearly 100% resistant to sun fading. On the safety side: MicroSeal is non-toxic, non-allergenic, GRAS-certified (Generally Recognized As Safe), and contains no forever chemicals — including no PFAS. It's an optional add-on, but worth it on any piece you plan to keep more than a year or two.
